More and more, I'm encouraging teachers to start using the Internet as a tool to help build a student-centered approach to learning. Part of building a student-centered learning environment is to provide material outside of the classroom that students can access and use on-demand.
So many tools exist for teachers to create and share information on the Internet. However, the biggest breakthrough in sharing information over the Internet is how easy the tools are to use for the novice user.
A great tool to use to share information is a Wiki. What's a Wiki? Well that's a great question. Here's a wonderful and brief description of a Wiki and how it can help educators.
Here is a great Wiki called Smart Measurement created by Jim Dornberg. The Wiki contains a collection of Math websites that focus on counting and measurements. The wiki is organized into 8 categories. Inside each category is a listing of websites organized by grade-level. Most of the sites contained in this Wiki work great on the SMART Board.
The great thing about Wiki's is that you can provide access to other people so they can contribute and edit the Wiki as well.
Thanks Jim for working so hard on creating such a great resource for teachers who love SMART Boards!
Sharing Is Caring!
